Assam gears up for Panchayat polls by Dec15

A high level  meeting was held at the Assam State Election Commission office on Friday regarding the  Panchayat polls in Assam that is scheduled to  be held by December 15. An ordinance will be promulgated  in the first week of November, said State Election Commissioner Harendra Nath Bora.

"The first notification will be released within the first week of November. A total of 1,40,000 civil employees and 1 lakh security personnel will be deployed," said  Bora

Additional Director General of Police, Law & Order, Assam, Mukesh Agarwal said, "We are ready for the polls.

Officials of State Election Commission (sec), Kanak Chandra  Sarma, Secretary, Home & Political Department, Preetom Saikia  Commissioner and Secretary Department of Elementary Education, Officials of Panchayat &  Rural Development Department  and top Officials of many departments were present at the meeting.

There are 2,200 Gaon panchayats in Assam.
