Assam Govt. Bans Gutka & Pan Masala

The Assam Government has put a ban on the manufacture, distribution, sale, transportation, and display of gutka and pan masala containing tobacco and nicotine.

The state government has banned the gutka and pan masala for a period of one year under Clause (a) of sub-section 2 of Section 30 of the Food Safety and Security Act, 2006.

As per a notification issued by the government, the prohibitions have been made under the regulations of 2, 3, 4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations 2011 of the Food Safety & Standards Act.

The governmenthas come up with the decision following the danger that has come to the livesof the people for consuming tobacco.
