Assam leaders detained by Delhi Police, released

Pratidin Bureau

Assam's eight organisational leaders and activists have been released at around 2 pm (Saturday); after they were arrested by Delhi Police in the wee hours of Saturday ahead of Republic day celebration in New Delhi.

As per reports, the delegation led-by Rubul Das had planned to wave black flags against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Republic day celebration of New Delhi. However, the delegation didn't get entry passes to the event. That's why they had intended to wave black flags in front of Delhi's Assam Bhawan.

It may be noted that there will be a fresh anti-government protest in New Delhi on January 27 by the delegation of seventy organisations against the Citizenship Bill issue.

Earlier, police detained the delegation from a hotel of Paharganj in Delhi-NCR. The leaders and activists of seventy organisations were in the custody of Delhi Sansad Marg Police Station.
