Assam MPs raise flood issue in RS

With rising concerns over the flood situation, Assam Membersof the Rajya Sabha raised the issue during the zero hours in the house today.

APCC chief Ripun Bora, in RS today, raised the concern of the devastating floods in the state following a protest outside the Parliament demanding declaration of the annual natural calamity as a national problem.

Subsequently, the newly elected MP Birendra Prasad Baishya(AGP), also urged the Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat todeclare floods and erosion, which is a regular phenomenon in Assam every year asa national problem.

Assuring the MP, Shekhawat said that a Central team will soonbe sent to take stock of the situation in the state and the Minister himself willvisit Assam to review the flood situation.
