Birthday celebration of 2nd biggest tree in Asia

Along with the entire country, the people of Pathsala in Barpeta district have celebrated the World Environment Day by celebrating the birthday of the 200-years old Banyan tree in Bajali in Assam.

The people of the area gathered in huge numbers and havealso cut a cake weighed 60kg on the occasion of the birthday celebration of thebanyan tree. It is informed by the organizers that the tree is the 2ndbiggest tree in Asia.

Locals said that there is oral history to prove that thetree has completed 200 years since it was planted. They also said that theyhave sought help from botanists from the nearby Bajali College to ascertain theage of the banyan tree. They said that after collecting data from the tree,they have also confirmed that the grand banyan tree is not less than 200 years.
