CAB: Army carries out flag march in Guwahati

To maintain the law and order situation in the wake of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Bill protests, the Centre airlifted 5,000 paramilitary personnel to Assam. Also, two Army columns were deployed in Assam.

Accordingto sources, two Army columns have been deployed in Guwahati city and arecarrying out flag marches.

Thegovernment withdrew 20 companies (2,000 personnel) from Jammu and Kashmir wherethey were deployed to maintain peace before the BJP government's decision torevoke Article 370. The remaining 30 companies were withdrawn from variousother States.

The curfew in Guwahati, which was imposed at 6.15 pm, has been extended till the indefinite period, Assam Police Additional Director General (Law and Order) Mukesh Agrawal told media. On the other hand, the curfew in Dibrugarh was imposed on Wednesday night and will be in force till further orders, Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha said.

Meanwhile,the Northeast Frontier Railway on Wednesday cancelled many trains andrescheduled a few amid the anti-CAB protests. Also, the Gauhati University,Cotton University and Dibrugarh University postponed examinations scheduled forWednesday.
