CAB : Prafulla Mahanta reiterates his stand

Pratidin Bureau

With just few days left for the winter session of Parliament to commence in New Delhi, the debate over the contentious CAB (Citizenship Amendment Bill) has gained momentum.

Meanwhile, former Assam chief minister and founder president of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Prafulla Kumar Mahanta breaks the silence and reiterated that 'He is always against the contentious Bill.'

Even as the NDA-led BJP government is adamant about bringing in the CAB in the Parliament, state political party-cum-NDA's ally Asom Gana Parishad is silent on the issue.

Mahanta said that people must oppose CAB as it was against the Assam Accord of 1985 for ensuring the constitutional protection of the indigenous people. With the Act, the definition of immigrants will get changed directly affecting the demography of Assam and the North east region
