Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday paid a visit to the family of martyred Havildar of Indian Army's 3/9 Gorkha Rifles Padam Bahadur Shrestha at Barpathar in Golaghat district.

Shrestha was martyred in cross border firing by Pakistani Army at the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district in North Kashmir on October 20.

The Chief Minister offered floral tributes at the portrait of slain army soldier and handed over a cheque of Rs 20 lakh to martyred soldier's wife. Extending his deepest condolences to the family, Chief Minister Sonowal interacted with the widow of the martyr and other family members.

Attending the Adyashradha today, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the sacrifice of the martyr would continue to inspire the young generation and motivate them to work for nation-building.

He also said that his sacrifice would not go in vain as it was a glowing example of patriotism and selfless service for the security of the country.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, MLAs Roselina Tirkey and Dr. Numal Momin among others during the visit.
