Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday urged the new generation of doctors to work in the rural areas of the State so that the people of those areas could avail better healthcare services. The CM made the comment while speaking at the convocation of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS).

The CMpresented the degree and diploma certificates to the students of SSUHS at the2nd Convocation of the university. The convocation was organised at GMCHAuditorium in Guwahati. He also conferred lifetime achievement awards to tendoctors for their contributions to the medical field.

Termingmedical as a noble profession, the CM said, "Society gives special status todoctors as they render lifesaving services to those who are in need and that iswhy, they must also strive to live upto the people's expectations throughdedicated service.

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present at the Convocation. During his speech, the minister informed that total seat capacity in medical colleges of Assam has been increased to 726 from earlier 391 and would soon be increased to 1000.

On the other hand, Dr Randeep Guleria, the Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi was also present on the occasion and opined that doctors have an important role to play in the nation-building process.
