Congress-led coalition parties in Manipur Demand ‘Floor Test’

Pratidin Bureau

Congress-led coalition parties (for Secular Progressive Front government) in Manipur called on Governor of Manipur by 5 PM today. Meanwhile, the Congress party in Manipur petitioned the EC asking for the votes of party MLA Ngamthang Haokip and Speaker Y Khemchand Singh to be cancelled.

It alleged that Haokip and Singh had shown their vote to the BJP official representative and the Congress representative respectively. According to the party, this was a violation of the Conduct of Election Rules 1961 and the relevant laws pertaining to the casting of votes.

"I hope there will be a special assembly soon for trust vote. We have the magic number", party leader and spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei said.

"Today, we have 24 Congress MLAs while BJP alone has 18. We are confident of winning the trust vote. The minority BJP Government in Manipur must prove its strength on the floor of the House. For upholding democracy and Constitution, trust vote is a must", Meitei said.

"In today's meeting with Madam Governor, former CM of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh & former Deputy CM Gaikhangam of Congress, former Deputy CM Y. Joykumar of NPP were present" Meitei added.
