Crucial hearing on NRC in SC today

Pratidin Bureau

The Apex Court for the final time will decide whether it will order reverification as demanded by Government or give a limited extension as sought by NRC authorities or keep the original date of publication i.e July 31.

The hearing will take place at 3.00 p.m. at court No 1.

All eyes are glued and the consensus discussion around itsuggested that Court may give two more weeks and order release of the list bythe midnight of August 14,209 while discarding the government plea of reverificationof 20% as NRC authorities had already done 27% reverification and now engagedin quality checking.

The AASU is hopeful that Supreme Court sticks to the original schedule or a small extension for the flood. Similarly, the AAMSU also echoed the same sentiment.  But Assam public Woks demands 100% reverification and Government wants 20% reverification.

According to the AASU, the reverification plea is a delay tactics by the government having ulterior motives. Meanwhile, the police and state machinery are not taking any chances and holding a series of review meetings by the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to meet any eventualities after the NRC publication.
