Darrang Farmer to return govt. award

A couple of months ago, Banadev Sarma, a resident of Pati-Darrang village in Darrang district had got the recognition of 'Best fish farmer' from Department of Fisheries Assam.

However, now the fish farmer wants to return the prestigious award. Reportedly, the fish farmer got a farmers' loan worth Rs 15 lakh with government subsidy for getting the recognition. Before approving the loan, department of fisheries told the farmer that Government will provide subsidy on the loan. But, the department allegedly cheated the fish farmer.

"I am now paying 13.5% as interest and I have to return Rs 35 lakh for disburse the complete loan as per the interest rate. I got the loan from SBI Mangaldoi branch" – said Banadev Sarma.
