FIR against Patanjali’s Satinath Barale

Pratidin Bureau

The Muslim Students Union has filed an FIR in Guwahati against Patanjali yogpeeth's yoga instructor for hurting the sentiments of people of Assam.

The FIR was filed at Dispur police station. This comes following derogatory remarks against Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev by Barale at an event of mass gathering in the State.

The student union has demanded strict legal action against the yoga instructor for making such absurd remarks without having knowledge of the person he was commenting on.

During a yoga camp held in Duni in Darrang district of Assam on September 28 this year, Barale said that Srimanta Shankardev wasn't a saint and there was nothing spiritual about the Namghars in Assam. He had also called the use of mustard oil to light earthen lamps in Namghars "sheer stupidity".

Following this, Yoga Guru and Patanjali founder Baba Ramdev immediately issued a public apology for the remarks that triggered massive protests across Assam.
