A massive fire broke out in a gas pipeline of Assam Gas Co. Limited in Jorhat town's Baruah Chariali area on Sunday evening. According to reports, the flame rose up to about 20 feet.

Fire-fighters were informed immediately after the incident and the firemen brought the fire under control after one and half-hour.

However, the reason behind the incident is yet to beascertained. Locals suspected that leakage of gas from the pipe may have causedthe fire.

Meanwhile, panic prevailed among the residents of thearea.
