Five members of a marriage party from Bongaigaon were killed and 13 others injured in a road accident on the NH-31 at Balajan near here around 3:30 am on Saturday.

The minibus carrying the marriage party was returning from Bidyardabri under Halakura Police Station and was hit by a speeding truck, police said. The truck driver has been taken into police custody.

The dead have been identified as Utpal Roy, Subhash Adhikary, Madhusudhan Roy, Sambhu Bin and Tansen Bin. The condition of two of the injured, who were shifted to the Dhubri Civil Hospital, is stated to be critical.
