Guwahati likely to host ASEAN football championship

Guwahati could be hosting the ASEAN Football Championship soon, revealed Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday. Speaking at a function held at Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium, CM Sonowal also informed that talks are on with the Centre to facilitate the scope of hosting the multinational event in Guwahati.

He also said that the event will be another step of the State government's attempt to declare Guwahati as the Sports Capital of the country.

CM was attending the event as a part of the Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMGUY) where he also disbursed initial payment of Rs 8 lakh each to 371 rural playgrounds to transform them into modern playgrounds. The first phase of the scheme plans to cover 500 grounds which will receive 40% of the total of 20 lakhs rupees to be given to each ground.
