Insurance Scam: 4 Weeks For Assam Govt. To File Affidavit

Pratidin Bureau

In an important hearing to the 500 crore Assam insurance scam, the division bench of the Gauhati High Court on Monday (May 27, 2019) granted four-week time to Assam government for filing an affidavit in response to the PIL (Public Interest Litigation) filed by Jitul Deka, the general secretary of Asomiya Yuva Mancha.

Deka alleged that personnel from the Assam police, government, doctors, bank officials and other corporates are involved in this multi-crore scam.

Deka on Monday demanded an unbiased CBI inquiry into the entire incident, which was readily agreed upon by the CBI lawyer. The date for next hearing of the case has been fixed on June 28.

It may be mentioned here that on July 2018 the Assam police arrested over 15 persons. The arrests were made on the basis of the PIL filed by the AYM.

The accused individuals had fraudulently collected money from insurance companies by presenting fake death certificates and other documents.
