MHA denies any probe against 4 Assam journalists

Pratidin Bureau

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has denied any probe against four Assamese editors and a news channel based on a complaint by Legal Rights Observatory (LRO), a body associated with the RSS. The MHA, however, admitted that they forward a letter to Assam government that came to a public grievance portal of the Central government.

According to MHA spokesperson, the letter was forward to Assam government as per existing routine, without making any comments. The spokesperson further said that the MHA has not asked for any inquiry on the basis of the letter.

Earlier, Vinay Joshi of LRO named Nitumoni Saikia, editor-in-chief of Pratidin Time; Manjit Mahanta, former editor of Axomiya Pratidin; Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, the editor of Prag News; Afrida Hussain, the editor of the web news portal InsideNE and News18 Assam/North-East in his complaint letter to the MHA. The LRO had lodged the complaint on February 14 seeking probe into the role of the four media houses, which the organisation alleged, were spreading militant ideologies.
