Nagaland To Set Its Variant of NRC

In less thana month to publish the final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) onJuly 31, Nagaland is set to start a variant of the NRC on July 10.

Nagaland'sHome Commissioner R. Ramakrishnan on Saturday issued a notification for settingup the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) which aims atpreparing a master list of all indigenous peoples and checking the issuance offake indigenous inhabitant certificates.

The notificationissued by the home commissioner states that designated teams would fan out tocover each village and urban ward from July 10 which will be monitored by thehome commissioner itself.

The commissionerfurther informed that the RIIN will be prepared after an extensive survey withthe help of a village-wise and ward-wise list of indigenous inhabitants basedon official records which will be prepared under the supervision of each districtadministration.

However, thestate government officials had directed all Deputy Commissioners to ensure thatthe teams were constituted by name within a week of the publication of thenotification, make the information about the teams public and communicate tothe village council chairman, village development board secretaries, wardauthorities, tribal hohos which is the apex body of each Naga group, churchauthorities and NGOs.
