NGT Urges to Form New Committee on Big Dam

The National GreenTribunal (NGT) on Thursday made a hearing in Delhi regarding the specialcommittee of the 2000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydro Electric Project.

The Assam PublicWorks (APW) and Tularam Gogoi have registered a case demanding a neutral committeefor the solution of big dam.

The NGT, however, has shown vested interest to form a new committee saying that the committee members should understand the problem of Assam and its people.

The NGT said thatthe centre should not give one-sided decision forcefully.  

It may be mentionedthat, one PM Scott (Hydrology) who is also a Government employee had violatedthe previous NGT judgment earlier. He is reportedly an employee of the CentralWater Commission Department and also Vice-Chairman of the Brahmaputra BoardCourt.

Moreover, On April 18 lastyear, NGT directed the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoE&F) toconsult all sides and resolve the objections of the 2000 MW Subansiri (Lower)hydro-power project and inform the Bench.
