By-Polls | No Victory Processions Shall Be Permissible: EC

The Election Commission (EC) on Monday stated that victory processions will not be allowed across all states/UTs where bye-elections were held.

After the counting concludes and winners are announced, victory processions will not be permissible, the EC stated.

The states/UTs where bye-elections were held are – Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Telangana, West Bengal and UT of Dadra & Nagar Havelli and Daman & Diu.

It was also informed that "not more than two persons shall be allowed to accompany the winning candidate or his/her authorized representative receives the certificate of election from the Returning Officer concerned."

"The aforementioned instruction shall also be mutatis mutandis applicable to ongoing bye-elections in various States/UT, 2021, This should be brought to notice of all concerned," it further stated.
