Nowgong & Cachar Paper Mills in Verge of Liquidation

In a bid to revive the Nowgong and Cachar Paper Mill which has been the long pending demand of the workers, the Central Government has now decided to liquidate the two paper mills of Assam.

Minister ofHeavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Arvind Sawant has put a contradictorystatement in the Rajya Sabha after having a discussion with the Assam MPsregarding the revival of the two paper mills.

Answering tothe question of Congress MP Ripun Bora in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday regardingthe revival of the paper mills, Minister Sawant said that the National CompanyLaw Tribunal (NCLT) has instructed liquidation of the paper mills and as perthe instruction the board of the paper mills has been wiped out.  The Minister also said that the NCLT hasinstructed for liquidation of both the paper mills on May 2.

Meanwhile,Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MP Birendra Prasad Baishya and AIUDF MP BadruddinAjmal have also made its stand clear that the revival of both Cachar andNowgong paper mills should be done immediately.

It may be mentioned that the President of Cachar Paper Project Workers' Union (CPPWU) Manabendra Chakraborty said that Arvind Sawant's statement was based on the May 2, 2019, order of NCLT, but on May 29, 2019, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) ordered that the service of the mills should continue and their employees or workers should attend their duties as usual.
