NSCN (IM) supplying arms to Maoists NIA

Pratidin Bureau

The Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) have been supplying modern weapons to the Maoists, revealed the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA officials also said that NSCN-IM cadres were involved in supplying the weapons from Myanmar. They further added that this is the first time NIA has come across instances of Nagas providing arms to Maoists.

Terming it a "dangerous trend", the NIA officials told reporters that it could derail peace talks between the Naga groups and the Indian government.

However, an official of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said, "Although there isn't any direct evidence yet that NSCN-IM has been directly involved in the smuggling of arms, it is up to the outfit to control rogue elements helping the red ultras in their own capacity."
