Nurses divide as protest enter Day-5

Pratidin Bureau

The statewide indefinite strike launched by the All Assam Nurses' Association (AANA) entered day-5 on Friday. The continuous strike has badly affected the normal functioning of medical college hospitals across Assam.

Long queues of patients were seen across every medical college in the State. More than four people have died around the State following the continuous protest by the nurses.

On the other hand, the Assam health department on Thursday called the representatives of AANA to discuss the issue. However, "There was no outcome," informed an AANA representative after the meeting.

Meanwhile, AANA chairman Anjana Saikia has informed that she will resign from the post of AANA chairman, if the nurses do not call off the strike in view of the difficulties faced by the patients. On the other hand, AANA secretary Junu Chutia informed that they will continue their protest unless government fulfills the demand.

The AGP has also reacted on the issue and said that Assam Health Minister has badly failed to resolve the matter.
