Ola, Uber Operators Protest in Guwahati

Pratidin Bureau

Guwahati Cab Operators staged a massive strike in front of Uber office in Guwahati today.

The Cab operators had given the call, protesting against the management of Ola and Uber services for having failed in fulfilling demands of the workers despite repeated appeals.

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi also took part in the strike. A massive protest rally has been carried out from Khanapara to Uber office.

"Uber and Ola have cheated the drivers. Many unemployed youths purchased vehicles and enrolled under app-based cab services Uber and Ola. When Uber came to Guwahati, huge incentives were offered to the drivers. But now, the companies like Ola and Uber have drastically reduced the incentives." – said Gogoi.

Demanding an increase in incentives and extra bonus for duties which go beyond eight hours per day, the union has asked for minimum wage for every cab owner-driver for eight-hour service rendered daily, as per international labour laws.
