PM Modi, Amit Shah Recall Lachit Borphukan On Birth Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday paid tributes to the legendary Ahom General Bir Lachit Borphukan on his 398th birth anniversary.

Both the leaders took to twitter to convey their respects to the state hero who led the Assamese army to victory in the legendary battle of Saraighat. Lachit Divas is celebrated statewide in Assam to commemorate the heroism of Lachit Borphukan and promote his ideals.

Home minister Amit Shah tweeted in Assamese and mentioned about the battle of Saraighat in 1671 while paying respects to the Ahom General.

"মহাবীৰ লাচিত বৰফুকনলৈ পুণ্য জয়ন্তীত শ্ৰদ্ধাঞ্জলি যাচিলোঁ। শৰাইঘাটৰ যুদ্ধত মাতৃভূমিক সুৰক্ষিত কৰাৰ বাবে বহিৰাগত শক্তিক তেখেতে অদম্য বীৰত্বেৰে প্ৰতিহত কৰিছিল। তেখেতৰ বিষয়ে অধ্যয়ন কৰিবলৈ যুৱপ্ৰজন্মক আহ্বান জনালোঁ। বীৰযোদ্ধাগৰাকীৰ দুৰ্দান্ত সাহসে ন-প্ৰজন্মক অনুপ্ৰাণিত কৰি যাব।" he tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted in Assamese as well as in English and said Borphukhan was an "outstanding leader" who played a "pivotal role in protecting the unique culture of Assam".

"On the special occasion of Lachit Diwas, we bow to the courageous Lachit Borphukan. He was an outstanding leader and strategist, who played a pivotal role in protecting the unique culture of Assam. He also worked extensively towards empowering the poor and downtrodden," he tweeted.
