Rajnath Singh assures full opportunity to people whose name have been left out of NRC

Pratidin Bureau

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today assured the Rajya Sabha that full opportunity will be given to the people left out in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

Singh said the NRC updation is being carried out with complete fairness and transparency without any discrimination and the entire process is being monitored by the Supreme Court.

Replying to a brief debate on the issue, the Home Minister also assured that no coercive action will be taken against anyone in any situation. He clarified that every person, whose name did not figure in the Final draft will get an opportunity to approach the Foreigners Tribunal.

However, he condemned attempts by a few to create an atmosphere of fear based on rumours.

Stating that it is a matter of national security, the Home Minister said no attempts should be made to create communal disharmony. Later, seeking clarifications, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad suggested the party and the government should speak in one voice for ensuring clarity in the NRC process.

He also called for strengthening the updating measures.
