Rajnath Singh chairs NEC plenary meet, says security situation improved “drastically”

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Tuesday that the government is giving special attention to the internal security of the northeast region at the 67th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong

Addressing the meet, Singh went on to say that the security situation in the region has improved drastically during the four years of the NDA government.

The home ministry is primarily concentrating on the security-related issues in the northeast east, with insurgency related incidents coming down by 85 per cent as compared to the 90s, he said.

While stressing the need of peace and normalcy for economic prosperity, Singh went on to emphasize the need for a forum to address the inter-state and security issues like boundary disputes, narcotics and arms trafficking and techniques for tackling terrorism and militancy.

The Home Minister also promoted value addition through food-processing and allied activities such as dairy-animal husbandry, poultry, bee-keeping, horticulture and fisheries as these are particularly relevant in the northeastern region.
