Redrafted CAB tabled in Lok Sabha today

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is tabled by Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the Lok Sabha today.

The bill is to be passed at Lok Sabha with a voice vote today. The BJP has order a whip in order to have full attendance of its Member of Parliament's (MP) at the house. The Rajya Sabha session has been extended for another day.

The Union Cabinet had cleared The redrafted Citizenship Amendment Bill which seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan has been cleared by the the Union Cabinet.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the bill  presented its report in the Lok Sabha on Monday which was first introduced in Parliament in 2016.

Former allies of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Asom Gana Parishad(AGP), opposition Congress and Left parties and many other north east political parties  have strongly opposed the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, saying "the Bill is against the fundamental aspect of the Indian constitution".

The centers decision has bought unrest in Assam and the indigenous organisations  have called for a bandh against the bill and staged massive protest for its withdrawal.
