Rumours going viral on social media; Assam police launches helpline

With increasing crimes related to social media, Assam Police is keeping a sharp eye on these platforms.

The state police have urged people not to be confounded by all rumours and fake news that circulate in any social media platforms which may lead to spread of panic across the region. This may ultimately lead to violence.

Considering the recent cases of violence, few helpline numbers have been launched in order to prevent such incidents in the future.

Assam police through twitter said, "Some mischievous elements are trying to disturb the peace by spreading hate messages. These anti-social activities are being monitored and action will be taken against such wrong doers".

Further, "We request citizens not to take part in spreading such messages and inform Assam Police on call or WhatsApp if they come across such hate messages to maintain peace and public safety.", it added.
