Sewage Clearance Delayed Due to Elections in Ghy: GMC

Pratidin Bureau

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation said that the delay in sewage clearance is because of the Assembly polls last February.

The clarification was made by GMC in a Press Meet where they briefed about the drainage issue on Thursday.

GMC said, "We are extremely sorry for the delay. There have been some technical errors."

The GMC further added that the order regarding the sewage work came just before three months. The tender was issued in March, so the work has been delayed, it said.

The work has started since May 12, informed GMC.

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation had cleared 329 drains last year. But this year, a total of 575 pipes have been ordered to be cleared.

GMC also clarifies that 70% of the work has been done, but the department mentioned it as only 30%.

Since the work which was supposed to be started in February has started in May because of the Assembly Elections in Assam, the work on clearing the sewage is getting delayed in Guwahati, said GMC.
