Tarun Gogoi slams AGP

Pratidin Bureau

Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi called for a press conference  on Monday on the Citizenship Amendment Bill. Gogoi slammed the center and state government  for trying to implement the Citizenship Amendment bill.

Gogoi said, "The BJP government is trying to destroy Assam trying to implement the bill. The bill can never be accepted".

Slamming Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in the press conference Gogoi said, "AGP is taking dual stands over the citizenship bill. It was foolish on AGP's part to meet Joint parliamentary committee chairman Rajendra Agwarwal in Meerut. AGP shouldn't consider the people of Assam imprudent".

Assam BJP government's ally, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), will be holding a massive protest rally on October 23 to further strengthen its stand against the much debated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

The rally will be carried out from Latasil playground in Uzan Bazar which will see participation from members and delegates from across the state.

This comes following a string of controversy against the Bill and the State BJP showing immense support towards its implementation, which will put in danger Assam's heritage and existence.

The saffron party showed their immense support for pushing the Citizenship Bill, while promising to deport the infiltrators from Bangladesh has triggered a wave of resentment and anxiety about radicalization of sub-nationalist elements in Assamese society.
