Twins selling case: Goalpara couple arrested

The couple, who sold theirnewborn twins, has been arrested by the police on Tuesday. The coupleidentified as Kushal Talukdar and Rupa Talukdar had sold their twins for Rs. 10lakhs each on June 19.

Acting on a tip-off, the Policearrested the duo from Goalpara town. According to police sources, they werearrested under IPC Section 371/373/211. Meanwhile, a Goalpara court sent bothof them to police custody.

It may be mentioned here thatthe incident came to light after an initiative by the Social Welfare Departmenton Saturday. The duo had covered the pregnancy by lying to their family membersthat tumours have developed inside Rupa's abdomen and later sold one of theirchildren in Santipur area in Guwahati and another in Goalpara.
