ULFA Grenade attack on Security forces, 11 injured

At least eleven persons were injured, two of them critically, as suspected ULFA members threw a grenade in front of Guwahati Central Shopping Mall this evening at 2000 hours.

All the injured were admitted in Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Amongst them two were CRPF jawans, a father-daughter and a pedestrian.

Senior police official investigating the spot said that the security check post in front of the Mall was targeted.

The powerful blast triggered massive traffic jam as the areawas bursting with evening activity and there were hundreds of shopping goers.

The GMCH authorities informed that all the injured had majorsplinters but they were out of danger and denied rumours that one personsuccumbed to the injuries.

The ULFA had called up some media houses and ownedresponsibility but the veracity of the same had not been independently confirmedyet.

This is the first such attack by the suspected ULFA in lasttwo years. The police had inputs of some attack and that was why several roundsof security review meeting also took place but the terrorists directly hurledthe grenade on the security man manning the check post in front of the Guwahaticentral Mall.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal quickly review thematter and condemned the incident and vowed to find out the culprits.
