Union Power Minister holds meeting in Guwahati

Minister of State (IC) Power and New & Renewable Energy Raj Kumar Singh chaired a meeting with the power ministers of eight northeastern states on Tuesday at Hotel Taj Vivanta in Guwahati to discuss ways and means for improving the power scenario in the northeastern states.

During the meeting Union Minister Singh mentioned that the Ministry of Power will extend its support to the efforts of the State Governments to ensure the supply of power in a reliable manner to all residents of these states. It may be mentioned that the Union government has taken up a programme to ensure 24X7 power supplies in the country which is to be completed by 2019.

The meeting was also attended by the officials from North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPCL) and Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL). The Union Minister emphasized exploiting the renewable energy potential in the state.

Earlier on Monday Raj Kumar Singh called on CM Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati. Various initiatives to improve the power scenario of Assam, status of schemes like Saubhagya, MMADY etc were discussed in the meeting.
