Upamanyu Hazarika says foreigners’ name included in NRC draft

Pratidin Bureau

Chief of the Prabajan Birodhi Manch , Upanamyu Hazarika has slammed the National Register of Citizens ( NRC) draft preparation and alleged that taking scope of loopholes in the update process , thousands of Bangladeshi migrants were able to include their names in the most vital citizenship documents.
"Large numbers of foreigners' names have been included in the NRC draft. This was due to callousness in preparation of the draft. The NRC authority was also to be blamed for this. There was loopholes in the draft preparation", alleged Hazarika.
Hazarika said that some people who were earlier declared as 'foreigner' by Foreigners' Tribunals were also able to include their name in the NRC draft and this happened due to lackluster attitudes of some officials involved in the NRC update process.
He added that in some NRC Seva Kendras (NSK)s even officials deputed were foreigners. Citing example of one such NSK, Hazarika said that at Garukhuti in Darrang district , out of the 10 filed level officers , 7 were foreigner .
The Prabajan Birodhi Manch (PBM) has spearheaded movement against migration to Assam from Bangladesh. The PBM generated mass supports against 'suspected Bangladeshi's settler in greater Sipajhar area in Darrang district.
Hazarika was critical on silence maintained on foreigner's name included in NRC draft by people, who are currently at the helm of political affairs at Dispur.
PBM has appealed the Register General of India (RGI) and Assam NRC coordinator Prateek Hazela to look into all the loopholes exited in the Assam NRC draft preparation.
