Wearing Reoccurs At Old Saraighat Bridge

Pratidin Bureau

The old Saraighat bridge in Guwahati which went massive repair work for three months has once again shown signs of wear and tear on various places.

The repair work was carried out by the Northeast Railway Frontier (NFR) and the wear and tear within a month of its reopening have displeased the general commuters who feel that the bridge might witness a major accident due to this recurrence of wear and tear.

In a statement, the NFR has said that the wear and tear have shown for using aluminium in the repair work and that the same would be repaired again soon.

It also assured that the wear and tear pose no threat to the commuters.

It may be mentioned that the old Saraighat Bridge was closed in March 2019 for 90 days to carry out "massive" repair work.

The Bridge connects two shores of the Brahmaputra at Assam's commercial hub Guwahati and is the first rail-cum-road bridge built in the region.
