A body of a newborn baby had been found on an AirAsia flight from Imphal to Delhi via Guwahati on Wednesday, said the police.

The body of the infant was allegedly found inside the toilet by a flight staffer and appeared to have been delivered on board and had toilet paper stuffed in its mouth.

According to police sources, the mother is reportedly an underage girl coming from Imphal.

"A newborn infant was found lifeless and abandoned onboard the aircraft. Delhi Police were alerted and a doctor from the medical team at Delhi IGI airport confirmed that the baby was delivered onboard. A suspect has been held back by police for further investigation," Air Asia said.

The Delhi police have registered a case of death on the flight with an ongoing investigation to know if the baby was a stillborn.
