Centre asks departments to regulate reservation in promotion of SC/ST employees

The centre on June 15 ordered all its departments and state governments to regulate reservation in promotion for employees belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste categories, following a recent verdict by the Supreme Court on the same.

The Department of Personnel and Training, in an order, said the cadre controlling authorities of Central Government Ministries and Departments along with Union territories are to carry out promotions in a manner conforming to the directives of the Supreme Court.

The order also states that every promotion must mention the specification that the promotion will be subject to further orders by the apex court.

The state governments are also directed to take required action in the matter.

The Supreme Court had recently allowed the Centre to go ahead with reservation in promotion for employees in congruence with the law.
