The counting for Delhi University Student's Union (DUSU) election votes were stopped midway today as reports of clashes and rigged EVMs made wave around New Delhi due to which the results have been delayed.

Congress' youth wing National Students Union of India (NSUI) demanded re-elections by alleging faulty EVMs at multiple locations. While its rival, BJP backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demanded for counting to continue.

A number of reports of clashes have been coming in since Monday between ABVP and NSUI supporters in the campus which has led to heavy security on the day of counting.

The counting was initially stopped for an hour after the allegations of faulty EVMs surfaced. However, following objections by the students, the election officials decided to suspend the process.

Amid all these, counting resumed at 5.17 PM in the evening after the candidates mutually came to an agreement and gave a nod for the counting process to resume. The results are likely to be declared shortly.

Around 2 lakh students voted in the election this year, which saw a voter turnout of 44.46 per cent. There are 23 candidates in the fray.
