Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the Constitution of India highlights both the rights and duties of citizens. This is a special aspect of our Constitution, says Modi.

Addressing a joint session of Parliament to commemorate the Constitution Day, Modi said to lawmakers that it should be our effort to emphasize duties in our interactions with people.

The PM further stated that following traffic rules is an example of citizens carrying out their duties. "The Constitution of India highlights both the rights and duties of citizens. This is a special aspect of our Constitution. Let us think about how we can fulfill the duties mentioned in our Constitution," Modi said.

He also reiterated that they cannot safeguard the rights without fulfilling the responsibilities adding that two mantras of the Constitution are dignity for Indians and unity for India.

Modi said that India has strengthened and empoweredits democracy in the last 70 years saying that in a way, Constitution is the mostsecular in the world.

Modi also pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

The government is celebrating 'Constitution Day' or'Samvidhan Diwas' in the Central Hall of Parliament to mark the 70thanniversary of adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in1949.

The joint session began with an address by the Lok SabhaSpeaker Om Birla followed by PM Modi and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

However, the Congress and some other oppositionparties have boycotted the Parliament session to protest against the BJP-ledMaharashtra government.
