Gujarat: 4 Killed, 5 Injured In Building Collapse

A three–storey building collapsed in Nadiad town of Gujarat killing at least four persons, including a one-year-old girl and five others severely injured, officials said on Saturday.

The building, located in Pragati Nagar area of the town in Khedadistrict collapsed on late Friday night, said Kheda Superintendent of Police(SP) Divya Mishra.

Mishra said that a total of nine persons were trapped after thebuilding collapsed out of which four died and five sustained injuries. The injuredwere admitted to a government hospital. She also informed that the rescueoperation lasted for seven hours which ended at 6 am. It involved a team ofNational Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire brigade from Nadiad, Vadodara,Anand and Ahmedabad as well as personnel of the district police.

The deceased has been identified as Kamranbhai Ansari (45), Alina(1), Poonamben Sachdev (45) and Rajesh Darji (65).

Police further informed that the collapsed building was a GujaratHousing Board construction.

According to State Emergency Operation Centre, the town of Nadiadreceived 201 mm rainfall in 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday.
