Home Ministry issues notice to RaGa over his citizenship

TheUnion Home Ministry on Monday issued a notice to Congress chief Rahul Gandhiafter receiving a complaint regarding his citizenship. The Ministry has askedRahul to respond to the complaint within a fortnight, which was lodged by RajyaSabha MP Subramanian Swamy.

Recently,Subramanian Swamy had claimed that the Congress president has four passportsincluding one in the name of Raul Vinci.

TheHome Ministry in its notice to the Congress president stated that Rahul was oneof the directors and secretary of a company that was registered in the UK in2003. The address of the company was 51 Southgate Street, Winchester, HampshireSO23 9EH.

The notice further asked Rahul to explain his "factual position" in the matter that his date of birth was given as 19/06/1970 and declared his nationality as British in the company's annual returns filed on 10/10/2005 and 31/10/2006. The Ministry further sought explanation from Rahul as his nationality has been mentioned as British during dissolution of the company.

Meanwhile, the Congress party said the notice is nothing but a political move by the BJP during the ongoing parliamentary elections.
