India’s 1st independent voter casts his vote

Shyam Saran Negi, a 102 year old voter who was also thefirst voter of Independent India's first general elections in 1951, casted hisvote today from Kalpa in Himachal Pradesh.

Shayam Saran Negi who is from Kalpa, a place about 275 kmaway from the state capital, Shimla has never missed an opportunity to vote andhas been a strong believer in democracy.  

Negi hadurged the voters "to elect honest and active candidates for your parliamentaryseats instead of voting for particular parties."

In the2019 general Lok Sabha elections, Negi voted for the 31st time.
