Karnataka Crisis: SC Likely To Hear Plea on Thursday

The Supreme Court of India might hear the petition ofKarnataka crisis on Thursday which has been filed by ten rebel Congress-JD (S)MLAs on the matter that the Speaker was not deliberately accepting theirresignations.

The MLAs alleged that the Speaker was abandoning hisconstitutional duty and deliberately delaying acceptance of their resignations.

The apex court, however, took note of the submissionof rebel MLAs after the dissidents approached the court said that it will seewhether their pleas can be listed on Thursday.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoitook note of the submission of senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appearing for theMLAs and assured him that it will see whether their petition can be listed foran urgent hearing on Thursday.

It has been said by the senior lawyer that theselawmakers have already resigned from the membership of the assembly and wantedto contest fresh elections.

The lawyer sought the hearing on Wednesday or Thursdayon the plea in which it has been alleged that the Speaker had acted in apartisan manner and deliberately not accepting their resignations.

The state assembly speaker on Tuesday held that theresignations of eight out of 13 rebel MLAs are not in order. However, thespeaker said that the resignations are not in the prescribed format and that hehas asked them to submit properly.
