Kashmir Row | What Message Are You Sending to NE: Congress MP

Pratidin Bureau

Amid rising uproar against the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019, which has been tabled in Lok Sabha today, Congress alleges that the government is sending a wrong message to the Northeastern states.

Congress MP Manish Tewari condemning the Bill at the Lower House termed it as undemocratic and Constitutional travesty.

Pointing out at the Section 3 of the Constitution, Tewari said, "Before taking the consent of Jammu and Kashmir's legislative assembly, which doesn't exist, you cannot scrap Article 370.  By imposing President's rule in the north eastern states, and using the rights of their Assemblies in the Parliament, you can scrap Article 371 too. What message are you sending to North-eastern states. What kind of precedence is this?"

However, Home Minister Amit Shah responding to Congress said that they have not even clarified if their party is in favour of the scrapping of Article 370 or not.
