Mizoram Gets an Olympian After 25 Years

After nearly 25 years, Mizoram found an Olympic competitor who will be representing India in the Tokyo Olympics.  Hockey player Lalremsiami also is the first female Olympian from Mizoram.

As per reports, the player is all set to make her debut in the Tokyo Olympics which will begin from July 23 and continue till August 8.

The 21-year-old player is also among one of the eight debutants assigned to the 16 member Indian women hockey squad, said reports.

Mizoram State Sports Minister Robert Romawia Royte praised the Olympian and conveyed best wishes to her. Besides Lalremsiami, the team includes seven other debutants- Gurjit Kaur (defender), Udita (defender), Nisha (mid-fielder), Navneet Kaur (forward), Sharmila Devi (forward), and Salima Tete  (mid-fielder).

Indian women's hockey team chief coach Sjoerd Marijne said, "We look forward to taking on the best in the world in Tokyo. This is a team with a lot of potentials and drives which we hope to channelise our energies to give our best performance."
