Narendra Modi to meet Xi Jinping

Chinese President XiJinping will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit thisweek at Bishkek. The Chinese premier will also meet Prime Minister NarendraModi here and this will be the first meeting between the two leaders afterBJP's massive victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

The two-day SCO summitwill take place on June 13 and June 14 next in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The SCO isa China-led eight-member economic and security bloc. India and Pakistan wereadmitted to the group in 2017.

From June 12 to 14,President Xi will pay a state visit to Kyrgyzstan and attend SCO summit.

Indian Ambassador toChina Vikram Misri said last week that the two leaders would meet on thesidelines of the SCO summit.

"It is worthmentioning that last year, our leaders met four times on the sidelines ofdifferent multi-lateral meetings," Indian Ambassador to China Vikram Misri hadsaid earlier, recalling about last year's Wuhan summit between India and China.

It may be mentionedhere that post the Wuhan summit, both the countries stepped up efforts toimprove relations on different spheres including the military-to-military ties.

Modi and Xi waslargely credited to have turned around the bilateral relations soured by the73-day Doklam standoff, triggered by Chinese troops attempts to build a roadclose to Indian border in an area also claimed by Bhutan in 2017.
