Sri Lankan Navy Arrests Indian Fishermen

Sri Lankan navy on Friday apprehended six Tamil Nadufishermen for allegedly straying into the Sri Lankan waters, stated an officialrelease of the Tamil Nadu fisheries department.

The statement further added that the fishermen fromNambuthalai in Ramanathapuram district were detained near Nedhuntheevu forcrossing into the island nation's waters.

"Sri Lankan Navy who were patrolling the area registeredcases against the six fishermen for catching fish in their territory and tookthem to Kangasenthurai," the statement added.

It may be mentioned here that as territories on the sea arenot clearly demarcated, straying of Indian and Sri Lankan fisherman into eachothers' waters is still an unsolving issue.
