UP woman sets herself and daughters on fire following argument with husband

A woman allegedly took her own life after setting herself and her two daughters on fire in Nagpur Tikait village in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district, police said on Thursday.

The woman, who has been identified as Soni, had an argument with her husband Prem Prakash over the issue of cooking food.

Following the argument, Soni set herself and her daughters Gauri (2 years), Astha (9 months) and Roshni (6 years) afire after sprinkling kerosene on them, police said.

While Soni died on the spot, the eldest daughter Roshni managed to flee from the room. Meanwhile, the two younger daughters succumbed to their burns on the way to the hospital.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem by the police.
